LEGACY LEAGUE PREPARES FOR INAUGURAL SEASON WITH IMPRESSIVE LINEUP OF FORMER MLB ALL-STARS AND HALL OF FAMERS FOR DEVELOPMENTAL BASEBALL LEAGUE
Just days before kicking off its inaugural season, Legacy League officials are encouraged by the participation of both high school and college players as registrations continue to be accepted leading up to the May 26th report date at Smith Wills Stadium.
The Legacy League and its teams are owned by former Major League Baseball stars such as Andruw Jones, Brian Jordan, Marquis Grissom, Jair Jurrjens, and Bernard Gilkey, along with NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady and Lary Aaron, the son of the legendary Henry "Hank" Aaron.
Former MLB players Marvin Freeman and Lou Collier will lead the Legacy League's player development team. Edgar Renteria serves as special assistant to the Commissioner's office, and Marco Paddy (former MLB International Scout of the Year) takes charge of recruiting.
The Legacy League is unique because it will focus on player development and improving each player's fundamentals, working to improve their skills rather than just lining them up on the field and letting them play. "We want to see improvement from each individual player following a Legacy League season, which is similar in length to an MLB spring training season. Each of us had to participate in and understand the value of this type of training and development, and the importance it has on a player. Those were the times that we could work on getting the kinks out and developing good habits."
By having all teams play at one location, former Major League All-Stars and Hall of Famers can work directly with and dedicate their time to imparting knowledge to these young men preparing for elevated future opportunities in baseball. The development
Perhaps best of all is the affordability and time sensitivity of the Legacy League. Registration for position players is $250.00. Dedicated pitchers can play at no cost for the season spanning May 26th through July 4th, courtesy of the Hank Aaron Sports Academy "Pitch Perfect" scholarship program. The league will feature games on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with development days on Tuesdays and Thursdays - giving the players weekends off for personal or family time.
Each of these former professional athletes says this is their way of "giving back" to the game by making it affordable, local, and developmental, while imparting knowledge, instruction, and direction from players who reached the game's highest levels.
The Legacy League continues to accept registrations for position players at www.legacyleaguebaseball.com, with walk-ups welcomed on Tuesday, May 26th, beginning at 1:00 pm, before players, owners, and coaches take the field for the first league workouts on Tuesday.
Pitchers (high school or collegiate) can register at no cost by emailing any of the league's Directors of Player Development or as a walk-up on Tuesday.
